The three major
islands of the U.S Virgin Islands are St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John located
just over 1,000 miles southeast of Miami, FL in the eastern Caribbean. All three
islands have their own distinct flavor of fun in the sun. St. John is laid back,
secluded and is great for natures lovers where you can enjoy some hiking,
camping and horseback riding. If visiting St. Thomas they have plenty of short
boat trips to experience St. John where you can have a picnic on the beach and
snorkel. We did this and it was worth the trip but I found taking a catamaran
most people were seasick on the way over. If you’re visiting St. Thomas, this is
one of my favorite destinations because of the beautiful views at “Mt Top” and
most beaches have you also surrounded by incredible mountain scenery.
Everything is here, great restaurants, nightclubs, shopping and some of the best
beaches in the world. St Croix is the largest of the three islands and with
it’s Danish influences provides a quaint atmosphere. Of course there are
beautiful beaches but there’s also great dining and shopping. Visit:

Jamaica
This mountainous
island is located about 600 hundred miles south of Miami and is the largest
English speaking island in the Caribbean. Much if the island rises above 1,000
feet above sea level which provides a lush tropical experience while visiting.
The most popular areas on Jamaica to visit are Kinston, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios
and Negril. While Jamaica is a great place to visit please beware that because
it’s still a economically developing country many islanders may approach you to
sell something such as crafts they made and unfortunately illegal drugs. To
avoid this situation I usually stay at one of the many inclusive resorts such as
Sandals or Club Med. Everything is there you need and you can take a tour bus or
rent a jeep if you want to explore the island but keep in mind they drive on the
left. Visit: www.visitjamaica.com for more
information.
Barbados
Although I haven’t
spent a lot of time on Barbados the time I have was defiantly memorable. The island is
relatively flat and the fine sand beaches are clean, beautiful and all open to
the public. Nude sun bathing is against the law in addition to people soliciting
there goods. What’s interesting here is as walking along the beach you will find
clusters of coral rocks popping up out of the sea creating some amazing ocean
views. Depending on what time of year you visit most sides of the island the
water is calm and fine to swim but if you’re looking for wild times on the sea
and maybe surf go to the north / east coast of the island but it’s not
recommended you go alone. Visit:

Aruba
Only 15
miles off the coast of Venezuela but I have to warn you wear sun block.
Close to the equator which means you can easily burn but the strong winds on
Aruba give a false sense as if you’re not getting too much sun. The “Divi Divi”
trees which bend at a 45 degree angle because of the constant breeze are a good
example of how windy it is here. The best part about a trip to Aruba is the
people that live there. Of all the islands and trips I’ve been on Aruba natives
are the friendliest. They welcome guests and make everyone feel comfortable, so
it’s easy to enjoy your vacation. There are many hotels you can stay along the
beach and some have casinos restaurants and nightclubs. If you’re looking for
something more laid back there are small hotels with private bungalows further
away from the action areas. Visit:

Bahamas – Nassau/Paradise Island
What most
people are unaware of is that The Bahamas consists of 700 diverse islands in the
Caribbean and has an estimated land area of 5,382 square miles. The most well
known and most popular being Nassau/Paradise Island. Just a short flight from
Florida and if you live on the east coast one of the lesser expensive islands to
get to and they have great packages for hotels and airfare. Second only to
Aruba, the people of the Bahamas are definitely the friendliest and appreciate
your patronage. Great beaches, tons of shopping and if you can spend a little
more then you must stay at the Atlantis. One of the best resorts I’ve been to in
the Caribbean, with incredible restaurants, nicely decorated rooms, fun
entertainment and a magnificent casino. That’s not all, Atlantis has the largest
aquarium in the world and you have to check out “The Dig” and enjoy dinner in
the restaurant down below. Visit:
