Action and excitement await you in this town, where you will find long stretches of beach, hotel casino resorts and the historic boardwalk with great shopping. Vacationers drive, fly and bus from all over to spend time in this lively town. Most famous for the casinos Atlantic City has much more to offer, including museums, art galleries, water sports and fishing.

The beaches are often crowded with people but everything you need is nearby. The boardwalk offers many places to eat, restrooms and shopping. Most of the hotel/casinos are right along the boardwalk, which is very convenient if you are spending a couple days or more in Atlantic City. Visit www.atlanticcitynj.com for more information.

Island Beach State Park

If your idea of “a day at the beach” is relaxing, nature and sunshine this is the place for you. Island Beach State Park is a barrier island with ten miles of sand and sea. The 3,000 acre island is the largest stretch of public beach in NJ. The island has never been developed so it’s quiet, clean and untouched with more than 300 species of plant life.

Lifeguards are on duty from 8am to dusk and the park has all the amenities needed except food. Bring a lunch or you can pick one up as you enter, there are many places right outside the entrance with snacks, drinks and sandwiches. After relaxing on the beach you can shower and a short drive away is Seaside Heights boardwalk for amusements, arcades, games and shopping. If exercise is your thing the park has a five mile bike path, nature trails, canoeing and of course swimming. Don’t forget your sunblock!

Long Branch, NJ

Long Branch has a long and interesting history with stories of artists, writers and mobsters but one thing has never changed, the beautiful beaches. Over time the beaches had eroded but in recent years the town and investors have spent a lot of time and money to rebuild the town and the beach.

While there you can enjoy, fishing, swimming, surfing, volleyball (nets are set up) and depending on when you’re visiting, a festival is always a fun day in Long Branch. For more information and a schedule of events go to www.longbranch.org and click on schedule.

Seaside park

The Borough of Seaside Park, located on the Barnegat Barrier Island in Ocean County, New  Jersey, was incorporated in 1898. Seaside Park is a small town of only 0.77 square miles with a year-round population of just over 2,200 residents. With almost two miles of shoreline on the Atlantic Ocean, the borough’s main industry is summer tourism. Seaside Park is bordered on the north by the Borough of Seaside Heights and its amusement arcades, rides and boardwalk. To the south is South Seaside Park, which is an unincorporated section of Berkeley Township, and Island Beach State Park.

Sandy Hook, NJ

Sandy Hook is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area and popularity is mostly due to the location. The six and a half miles of sandy beach is only a hop skip and jump from North Jersey and the city of New York. In the summer get there early on weekends or you won’t get in, since this beach is so close to the city it’s the first one to put up signs that say “full lot”. Sometimes it can get noisy on the beach so your best bet, if you want quiet is to go all the way to the end, North Beach. If you’re trying to avoid tan lines Gunnison Beach at Sandy Hook is the largest nude beach on the Atlantic Coast.

In addition to fishing, hiking, biking and bird watching check out Sandy Hook lighthouse, it’s the oldest LH in the country and nearby is historic Fort Hancock with several museums. The entrance to each beach at Sandy Hook has bathrooms and most have concession stands. If your looking for a little more then just a hot dog stop by the Seagulls Nest for drinks, food and music. Lifeguards are on call 10AM-6PM, from Memorial Day to Labor.

Point Pleasant, NJ

From the surprisingly beautiful stretch of beach to the busy boardwalk, Point Pleasant, New Jersey is fun for all ages. Mostly a family oriented beach because of the amusements, concessions and conveniences there is something for everyone. Main attractions are the Jenkinson’s Aquarium, Jenkinson’s Nightclub and Martell’s Restaurant / Tiki Bar.

The southern end of town is where the public access is located but we warned there are no lifeguards on duty. On the North end you will find Bradshaw Beach which is private access with lifeguards and they sell daily and seasonal passes. Lifeguards are on duty Memorial Day to Labor Day 9:30am to 5:30pm. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed.
