CONEY ISLAND
Since 1923 Coney
Island has been offering fun for all ages and doesn’t seem to be stopping
any time soon. From the sandy beach & rolling waves to the 60 acres of
amusement park there is much to do and see. Here are some attractions to
check out: Astroland, Coney Island Circus Sideshow, New York Aquarium,
Go-Cart City and local art exhibits. Places to eat are all around the area,
two of the most famous are Nathan’s Hot Dogs & Totonno’s Pizza.
Coney Island
Amusements are open between Easter & Memorial Day on weekends, then seven
days a week until Labor Day and again weekends only until the end of
September. The beach and boardwalk are open year round with lifeguards on
duty during the summer months.
Hamptons
The Hamptons are
located on Eastern Long Island and include many long and beautiful beaches.
Famous for the many celebrity residence “Going to the Hamptons” is a
familiar phrase if you live in NY or the surrounding areas. Over the years
the Hamptons have increasingly become more expensive to reside but many
people still love to visit because of the beauty and the variety of
activities the Hamptons have to offer. There are too many beaches to mention
but our favorite area is West Hampton. Besides the quiet and clean beaches
the quaint shops and cafes draw us into town for an afternoon of shopping
and people watching. Lashley beach is a favorite of the locals and they have
parking, showers, restrooms and just enough waves for local surfers.
Fire Island
Nature,
history, relaxation and adventure are what await you here. Fire Island is
located one hour east of New York City and can be reached by car, ferry or
train. Go to

are many species of birds and you may be lucky and see white-tailed deer
along with a red fox or two.
Recreation choices include surfing, sunbathing, boating, camping and
backpacking the miles of scenic hiking trails.
One of the
historic landmarks you may like to check out is the Fire Island Lighthouse.
Built in 1857 and the state rebuilt the lighthouse in 1987 as a museum and
observatory. Also, stop and visit the Sunken Forest where you can see trees
that are well over 200 years old and the twisted canopy.
JONES BEACH
This state park
is located in southern Nassau County on Jones Beach Island which is linked
to Long Island by the Parkway. When heading to Jones Beach leave extra early
on the weekends because the traffic is fierce but once you arrive there are
huge parking lots to accommodate most everyone. The park has a two mile long
boardwalk with restaurants, miniature golf, softball, tennis and park museum
Jones Beach offers more then just sun & sand. Be sure to check out the Tommy
Hilfiger Jones Beach amphitheater for up incoming shows.
The beach is six
and a half miles long lined with beautiful stone buildings and white sand.
Lifeguards are on duty throughout the summer months.
ROBERT MOSSES
STATE PARK
This southern
coast of Long Island Beach is 875 acres of beach for those looking to relax
and sunbathe without all the frills. There’s no boardwalk but the picnic
areas, food concessions and lockers are enough for just a day at the beach.
The beach is open year round from sunrise to sunset with lifeguard
protection during the summer. If you are looking to do something other then
catch some rays maybe try to can catch some fish off the Robert Moses piers.
Be aware, no pets are allowed and there is a designated area for nude
sunbathing.
ORCHARD BEACH
The one mile
stretch of beach is located at Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx and is known as
“ The Riviera of New York”. Wildlife near the city is what you will find
here including owls, raccoons and hawks. The 3,000 acres of wooded wetlands
is easy to get to by subway and the park has other amenities such as tennis,
picnic areas, basketball and playgrounds. The food court, showers and
changing areas provide convenience and comfortable day. Dogs are allowed and
get there early on weekends because the parking lot fills up quick.
